Former Columbia University gynecologist Dr. Robert Hadden attended New York Medical College and received his Doctor of Medicine in 1987.
He obtained his medical license in 1990 and began practicing as an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN) in New York City.
Hadden practiced in some of the most prestigious Manhattan hospitals, including Columbia University Irving Medical Center and the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
He also practiced at other New York City area medical facilities.
Behind closed doors, Robert Hadden used his position of power to sexually assault countless patients, including multiple minors, under the guise of medical care.
The first public report of sexual assault surfaced in June 2012.
A female patient went to the authorities and reported that Hadden had inappropriately made oral contact with her during a gynecological examination.
No criminal charges were pressed against him.
This caused more of Hadden’s female patients to speak out and spurred an investigation into his medical practice.
The increasing allegations against the predatory doctor led to the ultimate shutdown of his medical practice in August 2012.
Three plaintiffs, including two former patients and a previous staff member, filed a civil lawsuit against Dr. Robert Hadden and Columbia University in June 2013.
In June 2014, a grand jury from the Manhattan Supreme Court indicted Robert Hadden on six counts of sexual abuse, forcible touching, and criminal sex act, which amounted to up to four years in prison.
For the 2014 charges, the sexual abuser made a deal with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in 2016.
Hadden pleaded guilty to only two counts of the nine charges against him, including third-degree sexual abuse and forcible touching.
In return, the New York State Court dropped all charges against him, made him register as a sex offender, and stripped him of his medical license.
In September 2020, Robert Hadden was indicted for six counts of enticing and inducing victims to travel along state lines for medical examinations or medication.
Civil lawsuits were filed by our law firm against Columbia University and its affiliates for allowing and enabling Robert Hadden to commit countless acts of sexual abuse, violence, assault, and misconduct.
The Columbia University Irving Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital decided to settle civil claims.
In December 2021, they agreed to pay $71.5 million to 79 of Hadden’s victims.
In October 2022, they settled with 147 past victims for $165 million. NYC sexual abuse lawyer Anthony T. DiPietro from The DiPietro Law Firm led both settlement cases.
Hadden’s federal trial began on January 9, 2023, for six counts of enticing and inducing patients, including a minor and two pregnant women.
Additionally, federal prosecutors stated in court documents that Hadden sexually assaulted numerous female patients from 1993 to 2012.
On January 24, 2023, the federal court convicted Hadden of four counts of the six charges, carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years for each count.
Scheduled for sentencing on April 25, Hadden is facing a total of 80 years or a lifetime in prison.
Hadden’s victims urged for Hadden’s detention while waiting for his sentence.
On February 1, 2023, Judge Richard Berman ordered the medical predator remanded into custody while awaiting sentencing.
